Welcome to our website
Chigwell Riding Trust was the first riding centre for people with special needs in the world. It has been established in Chigwell for over forty years. Riding instruction is given to people of all ages and abilities. The riding centre has approximately 160 riders each week.
Our aim is to provide the opportunity of riding for people with special needs who might benefit from this activity. By the experience these individuals gain through their contact with horses and ponies we hope to create a sense of achievement and confidence. The benefits to riders are plain for all to see and helping riders to reap these benefits can be an enriching experience for all.
The work of Chigwell Riding Trust has the full support of the medical professions and all of our activities are carried out with the co-operation of physiotherapists and other relevant specialists.
If you need help or advice or can give advice, then the Chigwell Riding Trust Forum is the place to go. This is a new venture for us and we hope that it becomes a meeting place for riders, volunteers and anyone with an interest in riding for people with special needs. It is free to join and take part in. Just use it to say "Hello" to others if you wish.
Chigwell Riding Trust has superb outdoor and indoor riding arenas. These allow riding to take place in all weather conditions.
Adjacent to the riding centre is the Roding Valley Nature Reserve to which we have access for riding. This contains some of the last remaining water meadows in Essex and is home to a wonderful variety of wildlife.
Please take time to read of our history. Do have a look at the horse and ponies and if you would like to become involved we would really like to hear from you.
Help is always needed at Chigwell Riding Trust. Volunteers are always welcome to help with the rides and of course fundraising is a never ending task. Please look at Become involved to find out more.
